You’ve completed your homework – maybe you designed a beautiful poster or drafted up some logo designs – and now it’s time to print. No matter what you need to print, the Lab on the 3rd floor of Tower is the place to go. As you step into the Lab, you may feel surrounded by the numerous printers lining the space and might not know which one to choose. To help with this, we have compiled a list of all the Lab printers and exactly what they do, so that you can select the best one to use for any project.
The Printers and What They Do
Xerox “Find Me” Laser Printers (2)
- black and white
- color
- 3 sizes: 8.5” x 11”, 11” x 17”, 13” x 19”
- can bring in different kinds of paper for these machines (must be one of the exact sizes, and bring paper packaging to ensure compatibility with the laser printer)
- 2 more located in DS 9
Inkjet Printers (2)
- black and white
- color
- 24″ wide
- 8″ minimum length, 99″ maximum length
- can print on matte or luster paper
Color CAD Printers (2)
- black and white
- color
- 2 widths, 24″ or 36″
- 8″ minimum length, 99″ maximum length
- similar to inkjets but print on thinner paper and is less expensive
Inkjet Specialty
- black and white
- color
- 24″ wide
- 8″ minimum length, 99″ maximum length
- can swap out paper with different paper and fabric surfaces (ask to see the test booklet for samples)
The Beast
- black and white
- color
- 60″ wide
- 8″ minimum length, 99″ maximum length
- expensive, but use if you want to print something really big and really nice
Oce Plotter
- black and white
- 36″ wide
- very inexpensive, on thin paper
- good for pattern and architectural drafting
Risograph
- Specialty printer that you must schedule and appointment to use
- Really cool bright colors!
