Lisa Rosowsky
Professor of Design, Chairperson
About: Professor Rosowsky is the Chair of the Communication Design department. She received her MFA in Graphic Design from Yale University, and her AB from Harvard College. In addition to her longtime design practice for arts, non-profit, and education clients, she is also an exhibiting mixed-media artist. At MassArt, she has also run a Community Partnership Design course since 2001.

Katherine Hughes
Associate Professor of Design & Assistant Chairperson
About: Katherine Hughes is the Assistant Chairperson in Communication Design. In addition to teaching, Katherine is Design Director at Stoltze Design Group, where she has worked extensively with clients including MIT Spectrum and ArchitectureBoston magazines, the Davis Museum at Wellesley College, and Harvard Business School. Katherine earned her MFA in graphic design from RISD and holds a BA, cum laude, from Smith College. Her work has been honored by 50 Books / 50 Covers, the AIGA BoNE Show, Communication Arts, Graphis, Print, the Type Directors Club, UCDA, and UnderConsideration, among others. A native Californian, Katherine now lives in Somerville with her wife, twins, and an enormous cat named Wednesday.

Joe Quackenbush
Professor of Design
About: Joe Quackenbush is a Professor of Design in the Communication Design department. He developed the design curriculum and is lead design faculty for the Creative Continuum: Business and the Creative Process program, a joint venture between MassArt and Bentley University. Before joining MassArt in 2005, Joe was an adjunct professor at The Rhode Island School of Design for nine years where he taught both undergraduate and graduate courses. He has also taught at Clark University, Bentley University, and the University of Hartford. Joe is the founder of Quackenbush Design which has been helping educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and corporations communicate effectively through good design since 1997.

Associate Professor of Design & Director of DMI
Fish McGill
About: Fish is a double alum of MassArt, 2004 BFA & 2014 MFA. He has been a faculty member at MassArt since 2014, was a producer/designer for Harmonix Music Systems for the Rock Band and Dance Central series where his team won a Webby, worked as a Design Strategist for Continuum EPAM, & was Assistant Director of Admissions for MassArt. He has had a design & studio practice in Boston for over two decades working with clients including Nike, Bodega, 47 Brand, Johnny Cupcakes, MTV, The MFA, The ICA, JArts, & more.

Tatiana Gómez Gaggero
Assistant Professor
About: Tatiana is a Colombian graphic designer, printmaker, and educator based in Providence, RI. She has worked in graphic design studios in both Bogota and Boston, and has collaborated with cultural institutions such as the RISD Museum and the ICA in Boston.
She has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, at Boston University, and most recently at Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia as an AICAD post-graduate teaching fellow.
Tatiana’s work focuses on community oriented strategies and she practices as part of the team at Counterform: Community Design and Print Studio. She is also a collaborator on the research project Gráfica Latina, a digital archive of Latin American graphic design.
Tatiana holds an MFA in Graphic Design from the Rhode Island School of Design and a BA in Design from the Universidad de los Andes, in her native Bogotá.

Ryan Diaz
Assistant Professor
About: Ryan Diaz is a designer, writer, and educator exploring community through performance, emotional material, and pedagogies of vulgarity, schmaltz, and joy. His received his MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in graphic design, his BFA from the University of Washington in visual communications design, and was selected as a Chronicle Books Design Fellow, a Writers Corps Ambassadorship for On the Boards, and the MOMUS Emerging Critics writing residency. His professional experience includes work for book & editorial design, information design, and branding while balancing his practice in the performing arts, self-publishing, survivor-focused self-defense training, writing collectives, and artist collaborations.

Jan Kubasiewicz
Professor Emeritus
About: Jan Kubasiewicz, MassArt Professor Emeritus, Founder of the Dynamic Media Institute, the graduate program focused on communication design in the context of emerging technologies. He lectured at many universities in the United States, Australia, China, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Mexico, South Korea and Poland. He has curated exhibitions and organized workshops, seminars, conferences and publications on the topic of communication, design, and media. His personal work has been exhibited in North America, Asia and Europe. He is an affiliate of the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies at Harvard University where he serves as curator of the Giedrojć Gallery.

Elizabeth Resnick
Professor Emerita
About: Elizabeth Resnick is a Professor Emerita, former chair of Graphic Design and current part-time faculty at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Boston, Massachusetts. She earned her B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees in Graphic Design from Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, Rhode Island.
Professor Resnick is a passionate design curator who has organized seven comprehensive design exhibitions. Her publications include catalogs for the most of the exhibitions mentioned above plus The Social Design Reader, Bloomsbury Visual Arts (2019), Developing Citizen Designers, Bloomsbury Academic (2016), Design for Communication: Conceptual Graphic Design Basics, John Wiley & Sons Publishers (2003) and Graphic Design: A Problem-Solving Approach to Visual Communication, Prentice-Hall Publications (1984).

Saul Baizman
Adjunct Faculty
About: Saul Baizman is a web designer, software developer, and design educator based in Somerville, MA. He holds a BA in English and American Literature from Brandeis University and an MFA in Design from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. He has taught at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and the College of Art and Design at Lesley University and is adjunct faculty at MassArt’s Dynamic Media Institute. Selected clients include 826 Boston, Lifetime Arts, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, the Boston Arts Academy, the Longwood Symphony Orchestra, the Nielsen Gallery, Graduate Programs in Conflict Resolution at UMass Boston, and the College of Public and Community Service at UMass Boston.

Rosemary Conroy
Adjunct Faculty
About: Rosemary’s design practice focuses on branding. Her clients are in the fashion, education, energy, biotech, healthcare, corporate, and commercial real estate industries.
She received her B.A. in Fine Arts from College of the Holy Cross and graduated from the design program at The Art Institute of Boston. She is also an iPEC Certified Professional Coach.
Her work has been recognized by AIGA; Type Directors Club; D&AD Awards; Communication Arts; Print Regional Design Annual; Graphis Design Annual; Hatch Awards; and Art Directors Clubs in Baltimore, Washington, Los Angeles, and Denver.
Before MassArt, Rosemary was a visiting lecturer at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA).

Prin Limphongpand

About: Prin Limphongpand is currently a Senior Graphic Designer at MoMA. His work ranges from publications, exhibition, brand identity, and websites for both commercial and cultural sector. He has worked as a designer for Parsons Institute for Information Mapping, Default, and Stoltze Design. His has worked on designs for Davis Museum at Wellesley College, Rhode Island School of Design, Thailand Creative Design Center (TCDC), MIT, and Google.
He received a MFA in Graphic Design from the Rhode Island School of Design, Typeface Design Certificate from Cooper Union and a BFA in Communication Design from Parsons.

Tony Leone
Visiting Lecturer
About: Tony is an award-winning art director and identity designer. Since founding his studio in 2004, he has collaborated with corporate and non-profit communications offices, strategy and innovation design firms, product marketing departments, publishers, and individual entrepreneurs. Tony is a founding member of the team that created the internationally-recognized kids activity brand Unbored.
His work has been featured in publications by design historian Stephen Heller, honored by the AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts), and has appeared in Print, Graphis, HOW and Communication Arts. A 1998 graduate of Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Tony served as co-creative director for MassArt’s new brand identity in 2008.

Josh Luke

About: Josh is Best Dressed Signs’ designer and head painter. After working at New Bohemia Signs in San Francisco, Josh brought his unique design and sign painting skills to Boston in 2010. Josh has designed and produced signs for many local Boston businesses in addition to exhibiting his art in galleries around the world. His original designs often explore the dimensional qualities of letterform and the ability to visually conceive of space through painting.

About: Joe Krikava is Creative Director at HATCH, an advertising agency in Boston. Prior to that, he spent time working at Arnold Worldwide, Digitas, Brand Content, and Small Army developing award winning campaigns for a wide range of clients including: Titleist Golf, McDonalds, Bank of America, Boston Medical Center, ’47 Brand, Jeremiah Weed, Baileys Coffee Creamers, Monster, SolidWorks, HP Hood, and MountainOne Bank, among others. He is a MassArt alumnus with a BFA in Communication Design.

Luanne Witkowski
Assistant Studio Director
About: At MassArt, Luanne Witkowski serves as the Communication Design Studio Manager and Instructor, managing the studio space for Illustration, Graphic Design, and Animation majors. Witkowski is also a faculty member for Studio for Interrelated Media travel course, Nepal: Art and Social Practice; and MassArt’s Annual Interdisciplinary Mini-Residency at Haystack. In addition, Witkowski is a workshop presenter in MassArt’s Sustainability Incubator/Sustainability Committee and a LR-MFA mentor.
